The Secret Scorpion Door: Your Weep Holes

Scorpions entering through the vents? It's likely your Weep Holes. Learn why you can't caulk them shut and how to install mesh covers safely.

If you live in a stucco or brick house in Arizona/Nevada/Texas, go outside and look at the bottom of your wall.

Every few feet, you will see a small vertical slit or hole near the foundation.

These are Weep Holes. They let moisture escape so your house doesn't rot. But to a Bark Scorpion, this is a VIP entrance. They crawl in, climb up the wall void, and pop out of your AC vents or recessed lights inside.

Do NOT Caulk Them Shut!

I see this mistake all the time. A homeowner panics and seals the holes with silicone.

Congratulations, you just grew mold in your walls. Your house needs those vents to breathe.

The Mesh Solution

You need to retrofit them.

Buy stainless steel mesh or specialized "Weep Hole Covers." They clip into the hole. The mesh allows air to flow out, but the holes are too small for a scorpion (or a mouse) to squeeze in.

It takes about an hour to do the whole house, and it cuts down indoor scorpion sightings by 50% immediately.
