The Only Tick That Lives IN Your House (Brown Dog Tick)
Finding ticks inside your house? It's the Brown Dog Tick. Learn why they infest curtains and furniture and how to clear an indoor tick nest.
Usually, ticks are an "outside" problem. You walk in the woods, you get a tick.
But if you are finding ticks crawling up your living room curtains, hiding in the baseboards, or walking across the ceiling... you have a Brown Dog Tick infestation.
The Exception to the Rule
Most ticks (Deer Ticks, Wood Ticks) dry out and die indoors.
The Brown Dog Tick is different. It loves the indoors. It breeds in kennels and living rooms. It can complete its entire life cycle without ever going outside, as long as there is a dog nearby.
Why it's a nightmare
These ticks climb.
When they are ready to molt or lay eggs, they climb UP. You will find them tucked into the molding near the ceiling or behind picture frames. A single female lays 4,000 eggs behind your sofa.
Treating the Dog is Not Enough
If you just give the dog a flea/tick pill, the ticks will jump off the dog... and bite you instead.
You have to go nuclear: 1. Treat the Dog: Vet-approved meds. 2. Treat the House: You need a residual spray (with an IGR) applied to baseboards, window frames, and under furniture. You often have to treat twice, two weeks apart. 3. Wash Everything: Hot water wash for all pet beds.
